Regaining the lost glory

Pathai, is a small village situated in Tirunelveli district. It is located
three kilometre from Kalakad village, about 20 kilometer from Nanguneri and about 50 kilometre from Tirunelveli junction.

Located amid sylvan settings the village has one of the ancient shrines for Lord Siva, Sri Kulasekaranadhar temple, which is said to be several thousand years old and the present structure is about
1,200 years old. The Lord here is in the form of swayambu lingam. It is believed that Lord Rama offered His worship here on his way to Lanka. This ancient temple, with rich ancient carvings and
inscriptions, was lying in a state of disrepair. To give it a new lease of life the natives of the Pathai village undertook the renovation of the temple.

With sustained efforts daily rituals and important festivals are being conducted at the shrine for the past few years. Renovation work is still on at the temple, the consecration of which is slated for January 29, 5 a.m.,under the guidance of Ramakrishna Iyer, convenor of Sringeri Sankara Mutt, West Mambalam, Chennai. To finish the remaining repair work contributions are solicited.
