United in separation

A true devotee feels exhilarated at the infinite ways in which the Lord manifests within one’s inner being. Hanuman’s experience of Rama Bhakti comes full circle during his mission to Lanka when he meets the divine mother face to face. Hanuman had wondered at the extent of Rama’s grief and anger caused by the pangs of separation from His wife.

But on seeing Sita as the very picture of penance, chastity,
beauty and grace, Hanuman is able to appreciate Rama’s state of mind that struggles to bear this separation, said
Kalyanapuram Sri R. Aravamudhachariar in a discourse.
Sita’s worth is limitless and Hanuman now wonders how
Rama is still alive when separated from Sita. When he sees
Sita confront Ravana’s threats, he realises the divine
mother’s inherent dignity, penance and love for Rama.

Hanuman is impressed by the well matched divine couple.
They are equal in form, age, good conduct, and other features. They deserve each other in all respects. If Rama had slain mighty Vali and wrested the kingdom from him to give it to Sugriva, it was for Sita’s sake. Hanuman also feels that even if Rama transformed or destroyed the universe for Sita’s sake it would be most appropriate. Rama’s efforts and search for Sita, whose worth is beyond compare, are justified. No wonder Rama feels so much for her loss. How could Rama bear this separation? Or how could Sita bear to be separated from Rama either? But each lives in the other and this makes the divine couple ever united and transcend the physical separation. Sita’s presence takes him to Rama and in his mind he brings them together. Sita exudes humility when she accepts her suffering and analyses the cause dispassionately.

Did she not commit the mistake of longing for the mere
possession of a golden deer when the Lord was with her
always?
