Saint Arunagirinatha, in his Kandar Alankaaram says those
who imagine that they can enjoy wealth permanently, aremistaken. They do not know what fate has in store for them.
And if they think that they can hoard it, by burying it in a deep pit, then they must ponder whether this wealth that they have so saved will follow them when they leave this world. But if one were to think of Lord Shanmukha, then one need not fear death. If we think of Lord Shanmukha even for a short while, He rewards us two-fold.
Saint Arunagirinatha describes Lord Shanmukha as the
embodiment of jnana, said R. Narayanan, in a discourse. Heglows like the Sun God, says Arunagirinatha. He prays that the Lord should save him before his body consisting of five sense organs, and built on a foundation of two legs perishes. He says that he is protected by the weapons of the Lord, who reigns in Tiruchendur, and so Yama will not dare approach him.
Tiruchendur is a seashore temple in Tamil Nadu, which also
has the distinction as the temple where Kumaraguruparar, who later became a poet and composed verses in praise of
Lord Shanmukha, uttered his first words. Kumaraguruparar
had not been able to speak until the age of five, and it was in Tiruchendur that he first spoke.
“The moment I think of Him, Lord Shanmukha arrives at
once on His peacock, along with His Consort Valli, and Heteaches me that which is not easily understood even by sages,” says Arunagirinatha. The Lord comes gladly whenever Arunagirinatha thinks of Him, whatever the time of day.
Arunagirinatha scolds his mind, and asks what use is there
in describing the beauties of women. Apart from Tiruchendur, Arunagirinatha talks of the temple at Tiruchengode. He prays that his mind should be indifferent to sorrow and joy, and should worship the Lord of Tiruchengode.
