String of consecrations

Consecration will be performed

for three temples

in Aandiyur, Senganur,

Tiruvarur district, on June

1. They are Sri Dharmambal

sameda Sri Kailasanathar,

Sri Padmavati

sameda Tirupati Venkatesa

Perumal and Sri Siddi Vinayakar.

The three-day rituals

beginning today will

culminate in kumbabishekam

on Sunday, 8 a.m. onwards.

Renovation is in

progress at Sri Visalakshi

Amman sameda Sri Viswanathar

temple in Kavathandalam

village,

Kanchipuram. Consecration

has been fixed for

June 22, 9.30-10.30 a.m.

Tirukklayanam will follow.

Kasyapathandalam became

Kavathandalam

when sage Kasyapa set out

to Kasi to immerse his father’s

ashes. Legend has it

that the ashes turned a heap

of fragrant ‘mullai.’ The lingam

that the sage worshipped

was perceived as

Kasi Visvanatha accompanied

by Sri Visalakshi.

Cheyyar became Ganga.

The village attained the status

of Kasi and is thronged

by devotees for pitru pariharam.

Sathanur, Tiruvidaimarudur,

Thanjavur district,

where Sri Soundaranayaki

sameda Sri Airavadiswarar

temple is located, has

special significance being

the place where Tirumandiram

was born. Sandai also

known as Sathanur is linked

to the legend of cowherd

Moolan, who was Airavatham,

Indra’s elephant, born

on earth for a purpose.

Blessed by

Lord Siva,

who initiates

him into the

composition of Tirumandiram

through the line ‘Aindu

Karathanai…’ Moolan goes

on to compose 3,000 verses.

Thanks to the efforts of

the villagers, who salvaged

the lingam that did not have

a base, lying under a tree,

and philanthropists, the

temple has been reconstructed

and consecration

will take place on July 9.

A huge temple with all the

paraphernalia and a tank reduced

to a modest shrine

amidst green fields far away

from human population –

that was the state of Sri Kasi

Viswanatha in Chenna Samudram

(Malaimedu),

Wallajah, Vellore district.

The persistent efforts of the

villagers resulted in the resurrection

of the temple,

where renovation is on.

Consecration will take place

on July 7. For details regarding
