Of all created beings, a human being alone has the
choice to tear the veil of ignorance and experience the fullness of permanent bliss. Yet many fortunate beings do not avail of this opportunity. You gain what you pursue, say the scriptures. How is one to seek truth? If you strongly desire to know the truth, you will find ways and means to do it.
When Arjuna asks Krishna about this Supreme Truth, the Lord assures him that it is possible to know the Truth of the Supreme Brahman but that one has to will this with single-minded purpose, pointed out Srimati Sunanda in a lecture. The Supreme Brahman is beyond the manifest and un-manifest world.
It is at the substratum of everything. When engrossed in watching the continuous play of the waves on the ocean, one focuses on the waves
alone rather than on the sheet of water which is its support. While deeply engaged in worldly activities as human beings we tend to overlook the Brahman which is the cause, basis and support of the entire universe.
This is despite the fact that the ephemeral aspect of our existence is constantly emphasised by the changes that are continuously taking place in the
created world including our own selves.
Scriptures speak of the analogy of the dream state which is quite familiar to all of us to clarify the idea of the relative reality of the manifest world. An individual finds himself in familiar/ unfamiliar/situations while dreaming. When the dream ends, one wakes up to the reality of the world. If one were to probe the cause of dreams, one would have to accept the mind as the cause. This being so, where did the dream go on waking up?
It recedes into the mind. In like manner this manifest world is only an extension of the Supreme Brahman and will reside in Him after a period of existence.
All the experiences here are similar to the dream experience. The only absolute reality is
the Supreme Brahman. Self- realised souls are not affected by the changes in the worldly life. They understand the temporary nature of existence
and are forever attuned to the permanent reality that is eternal, true, and is the essence of consciousness and bliss.
