In kaliyuga,Namasankirtana is a sure route to salvation, say the scriptures and in keeping with this advice,Andal entreats the devotees to chant His names and become recipients of His grace. In a practically appealing manner,Andal's tiruppavai emphasises the goal of life and the means for attaining it.Acharyas and interpreters have delved deep into these verses to unravel the esoteric and philosphical essence of this pursuit- the subject matter of the Upanishads- which is well woven in them.
Andal imagines herself as a Gopi in Ayarpadi and invites the other gopis to join her in the undertaking of the Margazi Nombu. The Gopis are role models of supreme devotion.Their single minded determination to be one with Lord Krishna makes them seek only Him.Nothing else in this world appeals to them. This is the state of true devotion and hence Andal chooses the backdrop of the Gopis and the observance of the Nombu to impress on us this truth.Emphatically she proclaims that the one supreme Lord is Narayana, and it is He alone who can grant all wishes including the highest attainable goal, salvation.Without wasting time and the opportunity our birth affords should we not sing His glory, enjoy His omnipresence and savour His infinite greatness in all incarnations?
Did not this Lord take up the dimunitive form of Vamana for the sake of Indra who had lost his entire kingdom and glory to Bali?.The lord who is the sole proprietor of this entire universe adopted the role of a seeker of three feet of land from bali. With awe-inspiring grandeur,he then manifested His omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence when he took the form of Trivikrama. He taught Bali that He alone is the giver and this lesson in humility is for all of us.What we think and assume as our possession is all a gift from Him.We have to remember this truth and remain ever grateful to Him for this.
The entire creation had a chance to witness in tangible terms His glory. As Andal recalls this incarnation,we relive this episode and are motivated to reinforce our devotion and service to this Lord of the universe.
