HIS BROTHER'S DOUBT CLEARED

Ramalingar's first religious discourse had thus exercised a great fascination over the minds of Somu Chettiar and other learned men.So he could not but accept their request to send word to Sabapathy Pillai asking him to allow his brother to continue his discourses. This unforeseen news landed Sabapathy Pillai in great astonishment. He could not believe his ears. However he gave his consent.Accordingly Ramalingar continued his discourses on the life of St.Thirugnana sambandar.

Sabapathy pillai was hearing daily from his friends about the performance of his brother. All of them praised ramalingar and the manner in which he explained the protions taken for the discourse with unstinted admiration. As sabapathy pillai was under the impression that his brother wasted his time without proper study,he was a little hesitant to give credit to the news.he was also not inclined to believe the fact that his brother's performance was more appreciated and applauded than his own.An uncontrollable desire to hear his brother personally, arose in his mind.He called his wife and informed her of the fame which his brother got in a day. That good lady who loved Ramalingar more than her own son, felt very happy to know it.This was true to the saying of the great tamil poet Valluvar,"The mother, when she hears her son called "a Wise man" will rejoice more than when she did at his birth.

After a few days, being urged by a strong and fervent desire to hear his brother,Sabapathy Pillai went and took a solitary place unnoticed by the crowd.
He listened to his brother's speech with concentrated attention. His melodious exposition coupled with sweetness of voice and clarity of expression, thrilled Sabapathy Pillai.he was completely overcome by the discourse and became lost in it.He doubted whether the speaker was his own brother or some other prodigy of divine learning or the Incarnation of Lord Muruga. He went a little nearby, looked at his brother intently, and satisfied himself that it it was his own brother. He realised that his brother was a great "Siddha" bestowed with divine grace at such an early age.He felt very happy for his inability to see clearly his real worth. He despised himself for having rebuked and ill-treated his brother.

When he returned home, he told his wife all that he felt on hearing his brother's discourse. He said that his brother was a very great gnani(Seer),with divine wisdom inherent in him.he practically wept for his former cruel treatment of this great son of God,even though they were wrought with good intention. Moreover he felt that the wrongs done to Ramalingar were unpardonable sins punishable by God.

From that day onwards a change came over Sabapathy Pillai. He began to adore his brother. But all these made Ramalingar feel sorry. For ,he was above praise or rebuke and they did not affect him,as his ethereal soul never paid heed for earthly matters.
